Security Centre wants customers to be confident in the products they purchase from us. We will gladly assist with legitimate returns, exchanges and defective products, while also protecting against the return of products that have been used, installed, programmed, damaged or are simply no longer required after use.
This policy applies to purchases made through our online store at shop.securitycenter.co.za.
1. Change-of-Mind Returns
If you have purchased a product and subsequently decide that it is not suitable for your requirements, please contact Security Centre within 7 days of receiving your order.
For a change-of-mind return to be considered, the product must:
-
be unused and uninstalled;
-
be in its original condition;
-
include its original packaging, accessories, manuals and components;
-
not have been programmed, paired, configured, modified or altered;
-
show no signs of use, installation or damage; and
-
be accompanied by proof of purchase.
Security Centre reserves the right to inspect returned goods before approving a refund or exchange.
Products that have been installed, connected, programmed, paired or used cannot ordinarily be returned simply because the customer has changed their mind, selected the incorrect product or subsequently decided that the product does not meet their requirements.
This does not limit any rights a consumer may have in respect of defective, unsafe or incorrectly supplied goods under applicable South African consumer law.
2. Please Check Compatibility Before Purchasing
Security and automation products can have specific compatibility and installation requirements.
Customers are encouraged to contact Security Centre before purchasing if they are uncertain whether a particular camera, alarm component, remote, receiver, motor accessory, power supply, sensor or other product will work with their existing system.
Where the correct product has been supplied as ordered, incompatibility with a customer's existing equipment does not automatically mean that the product is defective.
Our team will, however, do our best to assist in finding a suitable solution.
3. Products That Have Been Used or Installed
Unless the product is defective or the customer otherwise has a statutory right to return it, Security Centre will not ordinarily accept returns of products that have:
-
been installed or mounted;
-
been wired or connected to an electrical or electronic system;
-
been programmed or configured;
-
been paired to another device or system;
-
had protective films, seals or packaging removed where this prevents resale as new;
-
been physically altered;
-
been damaged after delivery; or
-
been used for any period of time.
A product cannot be treated as a change-of-mind return after it has been used and then returned because the customer subsequently prefers another product, brand, specification or supplier.
4. Incorrect Products Supplied
If Security Centre supplies a product different from the product ordered, please contact us as soon as reasonably possible.
We will arrange for the incorrect product to be returned and the correct product supplied, subject to stock availability.
The incorrectly supplied product should not be installed or used once the error has been identified.
5. Damaged Deliveries
Please inspect your order as soon as possible after delivery.
If an item appears to have been damaged during transport, please notify Security Centre promptly and provide photographs of:
-
the product;
-
the packaging;
-
the courier label; and
-
the visible damage.
Please retain the original packaging while the matter is being investigated.
6. Faulty or Defective Products
The 7-day change-of-mind period does not replace or limit a consumer's statutory rights in respect of defective or unsafe goods.
Where a product is alleged to be defective, Security Centre may inspect or test the product, or arrange for the product to be assessed by the manufacturer, distributor or authorised technical agent, where reasonably necessary to establish the nature and cause of the fault.
Where the Consumer Protection Act or another applicable law provides the customer with a right to a repair, replacement or refund, Security Centre will honour that right.
Damage or malfunction resulting from misuse, incorrect installation, incorrect wiring, unauthorised modification, power surges, water ingress where the product is not designed for such exposure, physical damage, incorrect power supply, failure to follow manufacturer instructions or other causes occurring after supply may not constitute a product defect.
7. Warranty Claims
Certain products sold by Security Centre carry manufacturer or distributor warranties.
Warranty periods and conditions may differ between products and brands.
Where appropriate, Security Centre will assist customers with legitimate warranty claims. A warranty assessment may be required before the product is repaired or replaced.
A manufacturer's warranty is additional to, and does not replace, rights afforded to consumers by applicable South African law.
8. Special-Order, Cut or Customised Products
Products that have been specially ordered, cut to a customer's requested length, programmed or otherwise prepared or customised specifically for a customer may not ordinarily be returned due to a change of mind.
This includes, where applicable, cable cut to length and specially configured or programmed equipment.
This restriction does not apply where the product is defective or where applicable law gives the customer a right to return it.
9. Return Costs
Where a return arises because Security Centre supplied the incorrect product, or where Security Centre is responsible for the return under applicable consumer law, Security Centre will bear the applicable return cost.
For an approved change-of-mind return where the correct, non-defective product was supplied, the customer may be responsible for the cost of returning the product to Security Centre.
Original delivery charges are not ordinarily refundable on a change-of-mind return unless required by law.
10. Refunds
Once a returned product has been received and inspected, we will advise the customer whether the return has been approved.
Approved refunds will ordinarily be made using the original payment method wherever reasonably possible.
Refund processing times may vary depending on the customer's bank or payment provider.
Security Centre will not issue a refund merely because a product has been used for a period and the customer subsequently decides that they would prefer a different product, specification or supplier.
Nothing in this clause limits a customer's statutory rights in respect of defective goods.
11. In-Store Returns
Online purchases may also be brought to Security Centre for assessment by prior arrangement.
Please bring your proof of purchase and all packaging, accessories and components supplied with the product.
Acceptance of a product for assessment does not itself constitute acceptance of a return, warranty claim or refund.
12. Consumer Rights
Nothing in this policy is intended to exclude, restrict or override any right or remedy that cannot lawfully be excluded under the Consumer Protection Act 68 of 2008, the Electronic Communications and Transactions Act 25 of 2002 or other applicable South African legislation.
Where this policy and an applicable statutory consumer right conflict, the applicable law will prevail.
13. Contact Us
To request a return, report an incorrect delivery or enquire about a defective product, please contact Security Centre and provide:
-
your name;
-
order number or proof of purchase;
-
the product concerned;
-
the reason for the return; and
